During WW2 in the 1940s, bras were made from minimal fabric. It was in this era of limited supplies that the Utility Bra came into being. Utility bras employed the use of broche. Due to the war these bras very limited and were best ordered.
The war caused many women to make their own bras out of patterns using parachute silk, nylon, or old satin wedding dresses.
